BARCELONA CONSOLIDATES AS SMART CITIES GLOBAL CAPITAL  AT SMART CITY EXPO WORLD CONGRESS 2023

From November 7 to 9, Barcelona became the epicenter of urban innovation by hosting Smart City Expo World Congress 2023 (SCEWC 23) at Fira de Barcelona-Gran Vía. This international event, considered the most relevant in the field of intelligent cities, exceeded all expectations by registering record numbers of attendees and exhibitors.

The 2023 edition of the SCEWC stood out for its focus on urban innovation and sustainability as the path to a better future. More than 25,300 attendees from 140 countries gathered to discuss global strategies and address challenges in mobility, governance, sustainability and inclusion facing cities around the world.

The event featured prominent speakers, including Airbnb’s Nathan Blecharczyk and Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, who shared their perspectives on the role of technology and collaboration in building smart cities. One of the most impressive figures was the presence of 1,106 exhibitors, which represented an increase of 29.6% compared to the previous year. Among the leaders in the sector were companies such as Aramco, Cisco, Dell, Microsoft and Veolia, which presented innovative solutions in the field of public policies and technologies for urban management. More than 800 cities and countries presented initiatives that use digital twins and artificial intelligence to improve the quality of life in urban environments. Sustainable urban mobility was also a central theme, highlighting the importance of reducing traffic jams and promoting efficient transport alternatives.

With these achievements and records, Smart City Expo World Congress 2023 in Barcelona has consolidated the city as the global meeting point for smart cities, reaffirming its position as a leader in the “smart cities” sector. The next edition will take place in November 2024, promising to continue promoting urban innovation and the search for smart solutions to the urban challenges of the future.

Like every year, at the request of Fira de Barcelona, Fluge Barcelona was in charge of providing the audiovisual equipment for SCEWC 2023. For such a magnitude of event, Fluge Barcelona had 54 top-level professionals to manage each installation provided in the different spaces.

The main auditorium, with capacity for 450 people, stood out for the representation of a sun made with spotlights used to illuminate cycloramas. The rest of the lighting in the room was based on mobile LED equipment controlled from the technical control. In the video section, two 5 x 3 meter LED side screens, two 2 x 1.13 meter LED screens and a screen embedded in the representation of the sun were provided. In addition, three 20,000 lumen projectors and 2 9,000 lumen projectors were used. For its part, the sound system was made up of a P.A. system  d&b T10, 18 headset and handheld microphones in the room, along with a simultaneous translation system into 2 languages with more than 500 receivers.

The rest of the four rooms, with capacity for 150 people, were equipped with 6 x 3.38 meter LED screens and 9,000 lumen projectors, Nexo PS10 perimeter sound and mobile lighting. In addition, four agora areas were set up with 3.5 x 2 meter LED screens, flown sound systems and wireless microphones.
