The 17th edition of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, ​​the most influential event in the connectivity industry, was inaugurated on February 28 at the Fira de Gran Vía, in L’Hospitalet, Barcelona. The opening of the fair was attended by His Majesty King Felipe VI, the President of the Government Pedro Sánchez, the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Pere Aragonès, and the Mayor of Barcelona, ​​Ada Colau, among other personalities.

With this new edition’s presentation, carried out in one of the pavilions of the Fira de Barcelona, ​​where different companies from the sector took part, the kick-off was given to a new installment of the MWC that was divided into four days; Monday, February 28 to Thursday, March 3. More than 1,500 companies in the sector, both national and international, will have a presence through exhibitors at the fair, which was visited by around 60,000 attendees in person.

MWC 2022 was attended by pioneering companies in the manufacturing, automotive or health sectors such as mobile operators from around the world, device manufacturers or technology providers, among others, with the aim of sharing the latest news about the progress and future of connectivity. Some recurring themes of this new and broader edition are 5G networks, advanced artificial intelligence or financial technology. In addition, digital transformation is one of the axes of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which will allocate around a third of its investment to digitization (around 20,000 million euros), with a special focus on the arrival of the band broadband of 100MB to the entire population and the deployment of 5G networks.

The venue where the congress takes place has different spaces equipped to host different activities, such as the Partner Programs space, made up of four theaters and two rooms as a convention center; the Conference Center space, made up of two auditoriums; or the Industry City space, a new open auditorium.

Thanks to GSMA and Fira Barcelona’s confidence, ​​Fluge Barcelona was in charge of supplying top-level sound, lighting and video equipment, both for the opening event and for the fair. In addition, it also carried out the installation of audiovisual equipment and the construction of the different rooms, stages, entrances, Networking Areas and different stands, including that of GSMA, the organizing association of the event.

Like every year, Fluge Barcelona carried out a technical deployment of enormous proportions, which confirms, once again, its ability to respond to events of these characteristics and its profound professionalism. The most outstanding equipment provided consisted of laser projectors, LED screens, lighting and sound in the four theaters and the two rooms and convention center of the Partner Programs space, as well as in the Industry City open auditorium, in addition to the Conference auditoriums Center.

The video equipment provided was divided into three different spaces: the stands, the parallel conference rooms of the fair and the congress area made up of two auditoriums. Broadly speaking, around 560 monitors of different sizes, between 32” and 98”, and 75 square meters of LED screen were used in the stands, in addition to the conditioning of 3 private auditoriums. In the 25 parallel rooms of the fair, various video projectors were installed in addition to multiple LED screens, networking areas were prepared with streaming devices to enable remote presentations, various E2, Ascender and Pulse electronics, and 45 meters were installed squares of cube-shaped LED screens. Finally, in the congress area made up of 2 auditoriums and 4 conference rooms, LED screens were installed in all of them, different video projectors of 30,000, 40,000 and 9,000 lumens, 6 production racks with cameras, as well as different electronics of the type E2, S3, Aquilon or Ascend.

Regarding the sound equipment, more than 100 loudspeakers were installed, including Nexo PS8, Nexo PS10, LS600 and LS500 to cover the PA, Delay, Frontfill and monitors of the two auditoriums A and B, theater 1 and Industry City space. Theaters 2, 3, and 4 were equipped with d&b audiotechnik T10 loudspeakers to cover the PA and Delay, E5 for monitors, E8 for Fronfill and B4. All these monitors have been controlled by Yamaha QL1 and TF1 consoles with their respective Stage Rio32 and Tio16 boxes. To cover the different presentations, Fluge Barcelona supplied Shure ULXD and UHF-R wireless microphone systems. In the stands, Shure ULXP and Sennheiser EW500 G3 were used to cover the presentations, in addition to loudspeakers of Meyer Sound MM4, DAS Arco 24T, DAS Action 8ª and JBL Control One to provide sound for different spaces and provide audio to the videos on the LED screens. Shure QLXD RF systems controlled by the Soundcraft Expression SI 3 mixer were used in the Industry City space, in addition to multiple loudspeakers including the Nexo PS10, ID24 and LS500. For the Ministerial Zone and the different Conference Centers, 150 Bosch DCN microphones were used in all the rooms. For the opening dinner in the Oval Room of the National Art Museum of Catalonia, 4 stacks of T10 speakers and B4 subwoofers from d&b audiotechnik were used to cover the entire venue and a Yamaha CL5 control desk with its corresponding Rio32 box. As for the microphone, multiple Shure ULXD and MX418 systems were used for the different presentations that took place on stage.

Finally, the lighting material consisted of 280 mobile LED fixtures, 500 LED spotlights for static lighting, 350 meters of digital RGBW LED for stage lighting, 50 LED cut-outs, 220 motors and 1,600 meters of 30×30 black truss; an impressive display at the level of the event.
